Author from Elsewhere

Here's what's been happening, from early days to the latest news.

  • June 28, 2019 - I had  a good day at Seton Hill University's In Your Write Mind workshop. I met agents Chris Kepner and Natalie Kimber, attended interesting sessions, and chatted with other friendly authors. I recommend this annual event for any author!
  • March 9, 2019 - I had a fun and productive day at the Pittsburgh Writing Workshop. Met a couple of agents and some other nice people, attended interesting lectures, and watched the first page of The Captain and the Seer survive a review by five agents and an author without too much damage! (I made a couple of small revisions afterwards. Now it's even better.)
  • December 25, 2018 - Softlife  is available for free from Smashwords during their end-of-year sale, through January 1. Merry Christmas or other appropriate holiday (I don't mean to slight anyone, but I don't think I can list all the possibilities here).
  • October 27, 2018 - Softlife is available in the new Walmart ebook store! I added a link to that purchase option on the Softlife page of this site. To celebrate, I'll keep the price at $0.99 for a little longer.
  • August 19, 2018 - Another Kindle Softlife giveaway, this time on Amazon. From yesterday through August 25, at
  • July 16, 2018 - I totally overhauled the website, changing to GoDaddy's GoCentral website builder. I had to give up some features of my old site, but gained an SSL certificate, a mobile version, an email signup form, and a few other things. I hope you like it!
  • February 2, 2018 - I want to get even more copies of Softlife out there. I've started a Kindle Goodreads Giveaway. From now through March 5, Goodreads members can enter for a chance to win one of 100 free Kindle ebook copies of Softlife. Joining Goodreads is free.
  • January 15, 2018 - I decided I need to get more copies of Softlife  out there, so more people can recommend it by word of mouth (or reviews, or posts, or whatever). So I've lowered the price of all ebook  versions to $0.99. Sorry, but fixed costs and royalty structures prevent me from reducing the paperback price. $11.99 isn't so bad, is it?
  • April 29, 2017 - I posted an author interview video on YouTube, featuring me discussing Softlife with Jason1 and Iooi.
  • March 26, 2017 -Softlife will be going on a virtual book review tour by Goddess Fish Promotions during April, and the price of the ebook versions will be reduced to $0.99 throughout April.
  • March 4, 2017 - Smashwords is having their annual Read an Ebook Week March 5 through March 11. Softlife is 50% off from Smashwords during this time.
  • August 13, 2016 - I finished a new cover for Softlife. Those of you with the old purple-cover versions, don't worry; the story inside is exactly the same.
  • July 10, 2016 - I finished The Captain and the Seer  about a month ago. I'm going to investigate traditional publishing  first, so I'm afraid no one outside the industry will see it for a  while. But someday!
  • January 30, 2016 - My second novel, The Captain and the Seer, is starting review with my beta readers. It may be quite a while before it's available, but it's moving forward.
  • June 28, 2015 - I had a good weekend at the In Your Write  Mind workshop at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA. Pitch sessions  for Softlife, seminars, discussions, pretty good food, too much rain.
  • June 5, 2015 - I put up a Facebook author page, at This site will be a better place  for info, though, unless people start making interesting posts.
  • June 3, 2015 - I scared off another voice teacher--this one  moved clear to Japan! Maybe I should take the hint and stick with writing.
  • January 21, 2015 - My voice teacher moved to California (I  hope my attempts at singing didn't drive her off). I've started with another brave teacher.
  • July 26, 2014 - I had a nice day at the Confluence convention in Pittsburgh, PA, attending sessions, meeting people,  handing out bookmarks, and watching the Parallax Second Players in  action.
  • April 12, 2014 - I was at the Norwin Library near Irwin, PA signing and selling books, along with 19 other local authors.
  • September 27-28, 2013 - I attended the Context convention in Columbus, OH where I gave away three copies of Softlife in a drawing, took a couple of classes, and talked to several interesting people.
  • June 23, 2013 - I posted the song "Softlife: Jason1." I'm still going to keep taking those voice lessons.
  • June 23, 2013 - I've begun uploading the files to Smashwords, Kindle Direct Publishing, and CreateSpace. Softlife  will soon be available almost everywhere, as an ebook and as a trade  paperback. (Well, don't expect to see it on the shelves of a bookstore, but you should be able to order it anywhere.)
  • January 16, 2013 - I started taking voice lessons. We'll see whether they improve my future filk recordings.
  • December 22, 2012 - I finished the final revisions of Softlife. Now I'm working through publishing options, formatting, POD, cover art, and the rest of the logistics.
  • May 1, 2012 (yes, a busy day for this site) - I also put up new files for "Baroquen" and "Night Breezes." They have technical  improvements resulting in more volume and smaller file sizes, but are otherwise unchanged.
  • May 1, 2012 - I posted new recordings of "Twinkle Left and  Right" and "A Bit About a Bit." I fixed some timing problems with the originals and sang them (somewhat) better through a decidedly better microphone. If you have the old versions, you should definitely upgrade  to the new ones.
  • May 1, 2012 - I updated the entire web site (but then, if you've been here before, you already knew that).
